As Danrae Group’s Finance Manager, Lillian Caruana oversees all accounting and financial services for our team and our clients. As our Co-Founder, she’s also been part of our waterproofing company from day one.
With husband Ron Caruana, Lillian started Danrae Group more than twenty years ago, after Ron had made the switch from electrician to waterproofing expert. “We bought a van and began, and it’s the best thing that could have happened.”
Lillian now balances the business’s finances and communicates with clients and suppliers, to help deliver our tailored and industry leading waterproofing solutions.
An expert accountant
Lillian is an accountant with a broad knowledge of financial processes and a passion for numbers.
“I look after all of Danrae’s accounting. The first thing I usually do in the morning is to reconcile the accounts. I enter client invoices and pay supplier invoices, and I oversee the internal finances including payroll, superannuation and workers compensation for our team.
There are other ad hoc things like paying car insurance or organising a car loan,” she adds, “just all the nitty-gritty stuff to keep our waterproofers and tradesmen on the road.”
Building client relationships
Lillian and Ron established Danrae Group in 1994, named for their children, Daniel and Renee, who also now play key roles in the company. Daniel Caruana is our CEO, and Renee Spiteri, our Marketing and Operations Administrator.
The whole company now holds true to the family business values we began with, namely going above and beyond to provide the highest quality waterproofing for every customer.
Lillian especially enjoys building long-standing relationships with our suppliers and our customers across the strata, civil, commercial and government sectors.
“We provide waterproofing for a lot of big companies, from Frasers to Westmead Hospital. I have a very good rapport with our customers and suppliers, and some of them I’ve known for over 20 years. We have a good understanding. They know that we are a waterproofing company they can trust, and they do their utmost to pay us on time.”

“We purchase a lot from them, and we’ve been doing that for a very long time. We know each other very well.”
Leaders in waterproofing
While Lillian is looking forward to retirement, for the moment, accounting keeps her busy… and happily occupied.
“There are those stressful times when you’re chasing payments, but overall, I love my job,” she says.
